Entropion

Entropion is the term used to describe the inward turning of the upper and/or lower eyelid margin towards the globe of the eye. As a result of this abnormal eyelid posture, the front of the eye can become irritated during the blinking process. This irritation is caused by the lashes rubbing on the very sensitive front surface of the eye. Entropion will also cause excessive tea5ring and redness of the eye.

Artificial lubricating agents are helpful with this condition. With inflamed tissues, topical antibiotic ointments are recommended. Definitive treatment usually requires surgery. However, surgery is typically delayed until it is evident that the eyelid turning will not resolve spontaneously.
