Keratoconjunctivitis

This condition involves two parts of the eye, the cornea and the conjunctiva. The cornea is theouter clear window of the eye. The conjunctiva is the clear layer of tissue that covers the white portion of the eye as well as the inside lining under the upper and lower eyelids. Keratoconjunctivitis is a condition where the surface of these tissues becomes inflamed. Common causes of this inflammation include bacterial, viral and fungal infections, or a mechanical or environmental irritation. In some instances, this condition may occur secondary to an upper respiratory infection of the sinuses, throat or nasal passages.

Symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis generally include redness of the white part of the eye,
swollen-puffy eyes, varying degrees of light sensitivity and a discharge from the eye(s) ranging
from a clear fluid to a white-yellowish discharge. Treatment of this condition is dependent on
the cause.
