Dr. Maddox was born and raised in St. Paul. He graduated from St. Paul High School and then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In 2020, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Arizona College of Optometry with a Doctorate in Optometry.
During his time at the Arizona College of Optometry, he completed rotations at the Midwest Eye Institute, Horizon Eye Specialist and LASIK Center, Accent Eye Care, and Mayo Clinic. He was awarded excellence in contact lens fitting at graduation in 2020. He is a member of the Nebraska Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Maddox practices general optometry with a focus on corneal disease, specialty contact lenses, post-operative care, glaucoma, and diabetes. He sees patients at the Grand Island and St. Paul locations.
Derek and his fiancé Sarah live in Grand Island with their golden retriever, Iris. In their free time, they enjoy golfing, traveling, spending time with family and friends and, of course, watching Husker football and volleyball.
